WHAT HAPPENED ON THIS DAY?

1492 – Christopher Columbus becomes the first European to set foot on the island of Hispaniola (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic).
1931 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow was destroyed by an order of Joseph Stalin.
1932 – German-born Swiss physicist Albert Einstein is granted an American visa.
1955 – E. D. Nixon and Rosa Parks lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

1957 – Sukarno expels all Dutch people from Indonesia.

PHILIPPINE HISTORY ON THIS DAY

EVENT

1573 – Martin Enriquez viceroy of New Spain, wrote King Felipe II, announcing the arrival of ships with dispatches from the Philippines.  Augustinian friar Diego de Herrera inform the king of the violence and injustice which were being committed in the islands specially by soldiers who received no pay and  raids on the native villages.

1937 – The First postal service in the Philippines, established by a royal decree in 1767, 70 years earlier, was reorganized.
